After several attempts to repeal the Affordable Care Act, Senate Republicans have announced they will not vote on the Graham-Cassidy bill this week. This is good news when you consider the fact that this bill, if signed into law, would have left millions without health insurance according to the Congressional Budget Office. Also, efforts to repeal and replace the ACA will become more difficult after September 30, when more than a simple majority will be required to repeal the law.
Hopefully, this will encourage lawmakers from both sides of the aisle to work together to strengthen the Health Insurance Marketplace in the months ahead. In the meantime, you can rest assured that:
- Nothing has changed; the ACA is still the law.
- Open Enrollment Period 5 will happen as planned from November 1, 2017 to December 15, 2017.
- Free, in-person assistance will be available to help consumers pick a plan that best fits their health care needs and budget. Consumers can schedule a free, in-person appointment with a local assister by dialing 1-855-733-3711 or logging onto www.getcoveredamerica.org/connector.
