Today’s Health Care Vote and What it Means for Consumers

~ Published on May 4, 2017 by Willona Stallings ~

This afternoon, House Republicans voted to eliminate critical pieces of the Affordable Care Act, putting health coverage in America at risk. It is important to remember, however, that today’s vote does NOT change the fact that the Affordable Care Act is still the law, as any bill must pass both chambers of Congress and be signed by the President before it becomes law.

Please spread the word that ACA health insurance coverage for 2017 will remain in place for as long as the consumer keeps making their premium payments. It is also important to note that Open Enrollment Period 5 (OE5) is not proposed to be cancelled, even under the bill that was just passed. Therefore, we feel confident that OE5 will occur as scheduled, from November 1 through December 15.

NC Get Covered will keep you informed every step of the way. If consumers have questions about the status of their health insurance coverage in light of today’s vote, please encourage them to schedule a free, in-person appointment with a local assister by dialing 1-855-733-3711.

Thank you for your support,
NC Get Covered staff
